Ranking your site high doesn’t come easy. You must put the right SEO strategies behind a site to rank it. We say this, considering your site has the quality and informative content.

Quality content is a prerequisite. But that doesn’t mean just creating bright and informative content will help your site or page rank in the top 10. It won’t. You must put in your best SEO efforts with the right tactics to rank your page high. Trust us because we know.

But everyone is doing Search Engine Optimization to rank their pages. Not all of them are ranking. Why? More importantly, which strategies do you need to utilize to make your business website rank high?

Here, for your convenience, we have rounded up a few SEO tips and tricks, which when applied correctly, can do wonders for your rankings and vice versa.

This guide is meant for those struggling with their SEO rankings and looking for optimization techniques to help their site rank higher.

Use Keywords Strategically

Keywords are search words or phrases included in a website page that makes it possible for search engines to understand your website. For every search query users put on Google, the search engine returns the results that best serve the audience. And if you check them thoroughly, you will see that these pages are optimized around the keyword.

For example, searching for “digital marketing agency” shows websites built around these keywords.

But what is meant by strategic placement of keywords?

Now, when a search engine crawler crawls a page, it starts from the very beginning and crawls till the end. So, it’s best to immediately show the bots what your page is about.

We recommend putting your focus keywords in these places on a page to help Google or any other search engine quickly determine what your page is about, so it has a higher chance of ranking.

  1. Post Title
  2. Heading and Subheadings
  3. Copy (make sure the keywords are evenly distributed throughout the content, not saturated at a place, and also ensure that the keyword density does not go above 3% or Google might flag it as low quality and/or spam)
  4. URLs
  5. Beginning (within first 100 words) and end of the content.
  6. Meta descriptions
  7. Image alt attributes (not necessary)

It’s a great idea to use LSI keywords. LSI keywords are search terms or phrases that use different words from the focus keyword but convey the same meaning. For instance, if “car washing service” is your focus keyword, your LSI keywords can be “vehicle cleaning services,” “car cleaning services,” etc.

LSI keywords are a good idea because it helps you avoid keyword stuffing to a great extent. With LSI, you don’t have to use the exact search phrase repeatedly, which can make your content monotonous and make it keyword-stuffed.

[Pro tip: Ensure you don’t stuff your content with keywords. Use them only if it fits your content. DO NOT in any way compromise your content quality.]

Use the Right Content Strategy

Content is the soul of your site. Users will engage with your website only if they find it useful. In other words, you can retain users longer on your site if your content meets their requirements.

So, apart from content quality, you must also focus on sharing information users want. For instance, if you are running a shoe business, it’s a good idea to share informative content about shoes, such as sneakers, on your site.

A great way to enhance content quality is to make the content easy to read and grasp. Using complex words or sentences might be literally great work but it won’t help the casual readers stay on your page.

Also, make sure you make the content’s tone interactive to add a personal style to your write-up.

The best practice to help visitors stay longer on your webpage is to use as many bullets, subheads, and numbered lists as possible without affecting the content’s quality. This practice makes for an easy read, as users are more likely to go through the subheads or bullets more than a chunk of content.

Having said all that, users today are always on the go and prefer video content to text ones. So, websites using video content are much more likely to rank on the first page of Google than the ones not using them.

[Pro Tip: Do not miss out on free marketing opportunities. Create shareable content so that if readers like it, they can share the same easily on various social media platforms and others.]

Pruning Your Site is Not a Bad Idea

Pruning or deleting pages that do not bring in any traffic can increase the overall website traffic to a great extent.

This is particularly beneficial for eCommerce websites. Many e-Commerce sites found a massive increase in traffic and revenue when they deleted their ‘zombie pages.’

Why does this work?

It’s because Google does not want to rank sites that are full of thin, low-quality content. Google’s John Mueller said long ago on Twitter that fewer strong pages are often better than many weak pages. John wrote, “You can do a lot of things, but that doesn’t make it a good strategy for all sites :). Often few strong pages > many weak ones.”

Add Text to Your Videos, Podcasts, and Infographics

Yes, videos, infographics, and podcasts are great! They genuinely attract the attention of the users, and they like to engage with them better. But there’s one problem with that.

Google can’t read pictures, videos, or other graphics.

You can easily imagine how Google bots would ‘feel’ when they find pictures with no alt tags or descriptions. They would have no clue about what the images are about.

So, it’s always a great idea to put a lot of text before and after a video or image to guide Google into understanding what those are all about.

And when Google clearly understands your content, it will have a higher chance of SEO ranking.

Speed Up Your Site

A slow website can hurt your rankings. This is due to Google’s “Speed Update” that rolled out in 2018, in which Google clearly stated that page speed would be a ranking factor for mobile searches.

So, include anything that can increase page load speed and cut off everything taking you the other way.

One great way to increase page speed is to use CDN or Content Delivery Network.

CDN hosts media files across an extensive network of servers worldwide so they are readily available on every server. All results in a faster load time.

Many plugins, active or inactive, can affect your website load speed. So, do a plugin audit and keep the plugins that are necessary. Also, make sure you remove all the unnecessary plugins from your site.

Another great way to improve load speed is to use WebP image format. This format provides lossless image compressions and enhances your site’s speed and overall performance. Also, make sure you do optimize your images before uploading. Optimizing images means that you resize them to the exact size required on your page.

Conclusion

Every business wants to rank high to reach more and more audiences. Applying the correct SEO strategies will help your webpage rank high and earn credibility and authority in your niche.

The SEO tips mentioned above are tried and tested and have worked for many people. So, there’s no reason they won’t work for you either.

Apart from what we have mentioned above, making your website mobile-friendly is necessary to help it rank high.

Ranking high helps your business increase its reach and grow. And applying the above tips will only help your site or page to rank higher.
